2023 National Day of Social Action

July 19, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Each year before we bring our program to a close we have our National Day of Social Action (NDSA).
The purpose of the National Day of Social Action is to give Freedom Schools scholars the opportunity to take part in a collective action to constructively use their voices and creativity to express their own desire for change and justice.

This summer our focus is on stopping Gun Violence, a serious pain point for our country. Just this past 4th of July weekend there were 17 mass shootings across our country! At least 18 people were killed and 102 were wounded.

And gun violence involves more than one person shooting another. In fact, in Tennessee, like the rest of the
country, most gun deaths in 2021 were suicides. 54% of gun deaths were suicides and 42% were homicides.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday, July 19th, from 12:30-2:00pm when we march against Gun Violence from 507 S. Gay Street (Embassy Suites) to the City-County Building at 400 W. Main St.

Gun violence costs lives, physical and mental health, and money. Gun violence costs Tennessee $18.0 billion
each year, of which $415.5 million is paid by taxpayers.

We want to make a difference and raise our voices against gun violence. Please spread the word & join us!
